Budućnost, Bojan Mrđenović

fotografije, (2011. – 2017.)

Kroz zadnjih nekoliko desetljeća, uz raspad poduzeća Budućnost, pratimo institucionalni rasap socijalističke vizije svijeta a s njom i vjere u budućnost i napredak.

The Future, Bojan Mrđenović

photographs, (2011. – 2017.)

Trading company symbolically named The Future, was founded in 1954. Based in Pakrac. By the 90s, the company had over fifty premises in Pakrac, Lipik and the surrounding villages. After that, for a number of reasons it gradually weakens, and from 2006 it is in bankruptcy.

The facades of these buildings have layers of social and economic changes, change of system values and ideologies. The house Grgurić in Pakrac (photograph no.1) was built with the means of a local trade-man in 1906. in historical style. After it was nationalized, the facade was striped and simplified in the modernistic spirit. Most of the premises of the The Future company were build in that functional modernistic spirit. View of the architecture gives us an insight of it’s treatment in the past, and it’s current state tells us of the today’s spirit of time.

Most of the buildings of The Future were built in a time of collective belief in a better tomorrow, that was also very solid in the material reality.

In the last few decades, with the decay of the company The Future we also testify to a decay of a socialist vision of the world, and with it a decay of that belief in future and progress. Today, normal is constructed from a cynical perspective, through uncertainty and deregulation, and the horizon of a common future has become a taboo.

This piece will be presented in the gallery Podroom at the Cultural Center of Belgrade from 4.07. to 25.7. within the exhibition, Silence is deafness here.
